This blog is kept and updated by the parents of Elder Gardner to share his mission experiences as he teaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Spanish to the people in South Carolina. The blog covers the period of time before Elder Gardner's mission as he prepares to serve and follows him throughout his mission until his return home to Arizona.

Time In

Well, we're back at it.  It has been almost right at 4 months since Elder Gardner has returned home.  Many of you know, since that time, Sam has moved down to Mesa to live with his grandma and also to get some counseling down there as well.  He worked two jobs through the Christmas season and remained with Jamba Juice until he left it last week.  This has been a difficult, but wonderful time for Sam as he has learned to be away from home, and made so many new friends and had great experiences down in Mesa.  It was difficult for him to leave that place.  During his time home, I think Sam's mom and myself perhaps put some unwanted pressure on him eventually going back out on his mission, but soon realized we were probably doing more harm than good by doing that so we just really backed off and completely 100% supported Sam in whatever ended up happening.  Sharla and I received a wonderful Christmas present from Sam in the form of a video that he chose to show us on Christmas Eve.  We were extremely surprised and elated with Sam's decision to do what he could in order to go and serve the Lord.  We were even more surprised that this was entirely his idea and he had already taken care of everything without us even knowing.  It was WONDERFUL!!
Below is the video that Sam gave to us.  Such a heartfelt testimony to all of how Sam really has felt throughout this whole ordeal.  To say we are proud of Sam would be an understatement.  We love our Elder Geezy!!!

Sam went back into the mission field today.  We brought him directly to the mission home in Scottsdale and there was met by some wonderful missionaries as well as President and Sister Sweeney.  Sam is assigned to Payson, AZ and will be over two English wards and a Spanish Branch.  We appreciate and are thankful to President Sweeney for the inspired way he presides over this mission, even for his Elders who serve "mini" missions.  Below is Sam's first letter to us on the same day we left him as well as some shots that were taken at the mission home.

Hey guys, just wanting you to know that I made it here safe and sound! My companion is Elder Johnson, and he's awesome. We have been getting along very well, and he seems really chill. Our apartment is pretty big, its a two bedroom, two bath, and its called Tonto Basin.  It's cool, and I think I'll like it. We just went shopping for some food for the week, and then we went to a members home to do laundry and stuff. It's been a slow boring day, and my anxiety has been on and off. Hopefully I will be able to calm down and make it through these 12 weeks. I'm glad I'm here doing this, but it's going to be hard for me. We just got done talking to an investigator. It wasn't an appointment, he was just at the house we are at, and he's a good guy. His name is Brian. He's definitely made some mistakes, but he's a good guy and he just needs some help. I hope you all have a good week! Pray that I won't struggle and that I'll be able to enjoy it, and that my anxiety will go away. Love you guys.

Elder Geezy.

Sam with President and Sister Sweeney.  He looks happy!

It's not too often you get a mission home picture with the parents.
I'm not complaining!!
